Isabella and I have to be up at UM-Flint at 1pm today for orientation. Even though the childcare center didn't have me on the waiting list, they made an exception and let me enroll Isabella anyway. I didn't even have to call my boss and complain. So that's good. But still bittersweet. Adam and I talked last night. About me going back to work. He doesn't want me to. He wants me to stay home and raise Isabella myself, and eventually go back to work when baby #2 starts school (that means 7-8 years down the road). I like that idea, I really do. But right now, it just isn't feasible. We have too many bills and too much debt. I need to work. At least until we get our payoff from the city ($8,000 - the sewer backed up our basement last year and ruined lots of stuff. So the city is going to pay us $8,000 for the damages). When we get that money, I'll be able to quit my job, because we'll have a nice reserve in the bank. So we talked and talked, and finally came up with a compromise. I'm still going back to work on Monday. But I'm going to tell them to start looking for my replacement. I'll stay until she's hired, and I'll train her. But after that, I'm gone. The thing is, they really do like me at work, and while they will be sad to see me go, I will always have a place there. So in 7 or 8 years when I'm looking for work again, I can come back to UM-Flint and they'll find me a job. Not only that, but I have about 12 different people who could write me glowing letters of recommendation if I need them. So that's good as well. I'm kind of sad that I'm going to be giving up the best job I've ever had, but Isabella is more important to me. And making that sacrifice for her is well worth it to me. Besides. I can always do some freelance webdesign. I know plenty of small business owners who would like websites.
